How to love the work you do

Whether your work place is a cubicle shared between a couple of colleagues, a plush office with a swivel chair and Macbook, or the corner of your dining table, the work you do can be more than a way to earn a living and pay the bills. With the array of career choices available these days, you don’t need to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer or even an MBA to earn a decent living while loving what you do. So how do you hit the jackpot – find a career that appeals to you and love the work you do without getting bored or bogged down by the daily nature of a job?

List out what you’re good at and see if you can turn one of these into a career.

Priyani De turned in creatively written essays at school and often topped her English class. So, after she graduated, she decided to pursue a course in journalism and then worked as a writer for a magazine. As the years rolled by, she not only edited a magazine but also wrote a book. Even after spending 15 years as a writer and editor, she still loves what she does. What is it that you’re good at?

Let your hobby be your career.

Neil Mohan loved photography. So, even though a lot of his friends were studying to be engineers or software professionals – the professions of choice during his time, Neil decided to invest his time and money in learning and polishing up his photography skills. He started freelancing as a lifestyle photographer, moving on to become a well-known shutterbug with his own studio.

Learn on the go and find new angles to your profession.

Deepika Narayan has been a fashion designer for the past five years. While she liked designing clothes in the beginning, she soon found herself not enjoying creating garments to keep up with the fashions. Instead of leaving work, she did a few courses in pattern design and children’s clothing, and launched her own brand of baby wear with cute prints. Today, she loves her work and is glad that she re-designed her profession.

How do you plan to choose a line of work where you can do what you love?

    2. Your story already has a happy beginning! Congrats on taking the first step to a fulfilling career (and life!). As current trends in the corporate world are showing, there's no such thing as a 'regular, stable' job - unless it is backed by passion and a real zest that keeps you going.
